Jaguar Wiped Its Entire Lineup to Sell You a $150,000 Electric Monument

If you walked into a Jaguar dealership over the last year hoping to buy a brand new internal combustion sports car, you were probably met with locked doors, empty glass, and a salesman staring blankly into the middle distance. Jaguar did something almost unheard of in modern corporate history: they killed off nearly their entire existing lineup, including the F-Pace, F-Type, and XE, leaving themselves with virtually nothing to sell while they reinvented the company from scratch. Bold doesn't even begin to cover it. The British luxury brand decided that rather than quietly transitioning to electric power like everyone else, they would hit the reset button entirely and pivot into an ultra-luxury electric grand tourer brand aimed directly at Porsche, Bentley, and high-end art collectors.

The physical embodiment of this terrifying gamble is the Jaguar Type 00 concept, a long, low-slung, monolithic electric fastback that looks less like a motor vehicle and more like a minimalist sculpture carved out of solid aluminum. Spoken as zero-zero, the name pays homage to classic heritage models like the E-Type while signaling two zeros: zero emissions and zero connection to the old Jag you remember. With a massive bonnet, impossibly sharp roofline, butterfly doors, and a complete lack of a rear glass window, the Type 00 demands your attention whether you love it or want to throw rocks at it. Inside, the cabin features stone supports, a brass spine running down the center console, and a customizable lighting system that feels more like a lounge in Soho than a transport vehicle.

Underneath all the Miami pink paint and art-installation drama sits some serious engineering intent. The production evolution of this concept, codenamed the Type 01, is set to ride on the bespoke Jaguar Electric Architecture platform. Jaguar claims the production vehicle will pack a tri-motor setup delivering well over 986 horsepower, drawing power from a massive 120 kWh battery pack with an 800-volt high-voltage charging architecture. That translates to a promised WLTP range of over 435 miles and the ability to slap 200 miles of range back into the battery in roughly fifteen minutes. It will feature standard air suspension with twin-valve active dampers to keep all five point two meters of British electric muscle glued to the tarmac.

The real test isn't whether Jaguar can build a car with nearly one thousand horsepower. The real test is whether the world is willing to pay upwards of 130,000 British pounds or roughly 160,000 dollars for a Jaguar badge again. By deliberately abandoning the mass-market luxury space where the F-Pace once paid the bills, Jaguar is betting everything on exclusivity, high profit margins, and a design language that refuses to compromise. It is a jaw-dropping strategic maneuver in an EV market that has recently seen other automakers pull back on electric ambitions or hedge their bets with hybrid platforms. Jaguar isn't hedging anything. They burned the ships at the harbor and are marching straight into the electric unknown.

Whether this grand reset pays off or becomes a cautionary tale in business school textbooks remains to be seen. But you have to respect the sheer audacity of a brand willing to set its past on fire to chase something truly radical. For the Type 00 and its production sibling, we will find out soon enough if Coventry's massive gamble will crown a new king of electric luxury or just leave a very expensive crater.
